DISNEY GALLERY Focuses on “The Mandalorian”

The upcoming prestige documentary series takes a special insider’s look at the creative minds behind the phenomenal success of Star Wars: The Madalorian and what it took to keep the latest chapter of the epic saga true to its inspiration.

Since Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars and its announcement to continue to mine more stories from the galaxy far, far away that was created by George Lucas, fans have expressed concerns that too many trips to well might eventually run dry. The recent less than stellar performance of the sequel trilogy, on the heels of the obscure Solo had begun to validate many fears among an audience that has been cultivated and curated to for the last 40 years. With the advent of the subscriber-based Disney+ there appeared some hope.

Promising all-new Original Content set in the familiar worlds of Star Wars the first glimmer came from the launch of The Mandalorian from executive producers Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Dave Filoni. The series was an instant success and became an overnight pop-culture phenomenon. Set in the era that follows the events of Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi it’s told from the perspective of a Mandalorian gun-for-hire named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who stumbles upon an unlikely target that forces to rethink the trajectory of his purpose in the galaxy.

The series with its particularly authentic feel and scaled-down story narrative (choosing to navigate the adventure through a single character’s laser-focused trajectory, rather than a large-scale “the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance”) gave fans the experience that they had been searching for all along. On Monday, May 4 Disney+ is taking the audience inside the making-of The Mandalorian in their new documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian also produced by Jon Favreau.

With never-before-seen interviews featuring the cast and creators of the Original Series, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian had unprecedented access to the filming and development of the show and reveals the unique production and scope of creating basically a weekly Star Wars movie on a serialized budget. The eight-episode documentary series will center on roundtable discussions and exclusive on-set footage to dive into a facet of The Mandalorian. You can bet, that the filmmakers may also share a glimpse at the much speculated upcoming Season Two.
