The heavens up above are shining bright! With the news that DC’s Stargirl will be launching in May, introducing (or perhaps re-introducing) one of the brightest heroines in the comics pantheon. Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) is just your average, over-achieving high school sophomore, but when her family moves from the West Coast of California to Blue Valley, Nebraska, her world appears to have come undone. Until she discovers that her new step-father, Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) might be keeping a secret alter ego from them.

The Original Series from Greg Berlanti, the super-producer behind The CW’s “Arrowverse” universe of characters, and Geoff Johns, the DC Comics best-selling writer, was initially pitched to premiere exclusively on the DC Universe subscriber-service, and only recently was it announced that Stargirl will also co-air as part of The CW’s line-up in the fall, The series is set to launch on Monday, May 18 commercial-free on DC Universe, with an encore play for network audiences on The CW on Tuesday, May 19.

At the conclusion of this season’s epic 5-part “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, a new “Prime” Earth arose from the collapse of the multiverse, but it was also evident that a “multiverse” continued to exist and it includes a newly formed Earth-2. It’s on this earth that a group of “Golden Age” heroes gathered as the Justice Society of America (the antecedent of the Modern Age’s Justice League), and a new generation will unite to carry the torch for the future. Audiences can expect Stargirl to be leading the charge!

Take a look at the new trailer here:

DC’s Stargirl premieres on the DC Universe Monday, May 18 commercial-free and will debut in primetime on The CW with an encore presentation on Tuesday, May 19.
